We clean-up where others won’t!
and it is our business to help YOU

There are times in our lives when something completely out of the norm happens and it can be difficult to know what is the right way to deal with it. Over the last 40 years we have assisted clients who have found that their home or property they own has been damaged through some traumatic event.

This can be distressing from a number of points of view so we do our utmost to take away one aspect by removing all signs of the event itself.

Trauma cleaning is specialised job that is outwith the scope of most cleaning contractors. It shouldn’t be assumed that all cleaning companies are capable of dealing with this type of work. To start with, most fail to recognise the potential risks involved in dealing with body fluids.

In years gone past early bio-recovery practitioners appreciated the danger of HIV and Hepatitis B but in the main were unaware of the dangers of Hepatitis C which was considered as a minor ailment rather than the potential killer that it is.

Because of this, stringent procedures are required before a seemingly innocuous blood spill is dealt with. To start with a Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan is required which should contain a number of aspects including a rigorous work control process.
It is no longer acceptable to wipe up a body fluid spillage with a cloth and then rinse it under a tap.

If you manage your own jobs do you fully understand what products you are required to use? There is such a choice of products available. With Anionic Detergents, Antiseptics, Bactericides, Bacteriostats, Biocides, Cationic Detergents, Disinfectants, Fungicides, Sanitisers, Sporicides, Sterilisers and Viricides where do you start?

The alternative is to use an experienced professional such as Monkland Bio-Recovery Services.

Sudden death or accident Whether natural death or suicide we have responded to these situations for many years. We fully understand cleaning techniques and processes and have adapted them to trauma situations. Technicians are taught not only how to carry out the work but also how to do it discreetly and in a supportive way, particularly where the next of kin or family members are involved.

Areas or items contaminated by body fluids are either removed or cleaned. Odours are treated. Deeply contaminated surfaces are made safe by cleaning and sealing.

Understanding the rules There are a number of areas of Health & Safety legislation which govern what should be done in trauma situations. These include The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (HSWA) which sets out the general duties to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work for all those involved. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR) provides a framework for controlling health and safety at work including the need for risk assessments and setting out that employers should have access to competent help to establish procedures and apply the provisions of health and safety law. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) provides a different framework this as a series of actions designed to control the risk from a range of hazardous substances including biological agents. The Reporting of Incidents, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) requires employers, the self employed and people in control of premises to report certain dangerous occurrences, occupational injuries and diseases. The Carriage of Dangerous Goods (classification, Packaging and Labelling) Regulations 1996 sets out the legislative controls for the domestic carriage of dangerous goods, including biological agents.
